Box Hill United junior girls kicked their 2020 season off at Wembley Park against Bulleen Lions. Here is the round-up of matches from today.
U/12s: Box Hill United 1-2 Bulleen Lions
In a first-half that panned out largely on an even-keel, Box Hill juniors were the ones with the better chances, even hitting the woodwork from a corner.
However, following the change of ends, Bulleen took a two-goal lead via quickfire strikes.
But Box Hill continued piling the pressure, with forward Sienna Tantuccio managing to halve the deficit after a superb strike from distance.
U/14s: Box Hill United 0-5 Bulleen Lions
It was a tough outing for our U/14s, who found their Bulleen counterparts too strong over the course of the game despite an encouraging first-half.
The Box Hill youngsters conceded a second-minute goal following a defensive mix-up while recycling the ball.
But Orlando Morales’ charges rallied back with better possession, forcing several corners, and Stacey Giannakopoulos went close to equalising from a free-kick outside the box.
Bulleen, however, tightened their grip over proceedings with four more strikes in the second period to script an opening victory.
U/16s: Box Hill United 0-2 Bulleen Lions
The visitors dominated possession right from the opening whistle, but the hosts were good value for their defensive qualities throughout the match.
Box Hill goalkeeper Emma Somers led the backline with several top-notch interventions, but was powerless to stop two goals either side of the break.
Just before half-time, Bulleen grabbed their opener from a close-range tap-in after Somers had parried a shot.
While in the second-half, the away outfit bagged their second from a stunning free-kick that went in beyond Somers diving at full-stretch.
